PM Modi chairs meet of BJP CMs; Yogi Adityanath to stay at the helm in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, July 27

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a key meeting of Chief Ministers and deputy CMs of BJP-ruled states, asking them to ensure saturation coverage of all government schemes meant for the poor, farmers, women and youth.

An important signal from the meeting was the PM’s and party’s backing for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with insiders saying his deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak were asked to stay “within party discipline” and stop giving signals that things were not well in the UP BJP.

‘Ensure saturation of welfare schemes’

• Modi took stock of Central schemes being implemented in BJP-ruled states and asked the CMs to ensure wide saturation
• He also told the CMs to disseminate key Union Budget takeaways, especially Rs 2 lakh crore package for jobs to 4.1 crore youth over five years, rural housing and plans for farmers

Maurya and Pathak have been skipping some key meetings called by Yogi, who recently held a review of the BJP’s poor Lok Sabha show in the state where it came down from 62 to 33 Lok Sabha seats out of 80 in this poll.

Yogi earlier met senior BJP leaders amid signs that he had the PM’s support. He also discussed election strategy for 10 upcoming Assembly bypolls with BJP chief JP Nadda and BJP general secretary organisation BL Santosh, the link between the RSS and BJP.

CMs Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana), Bhajanlal Sharma (Rajasthan), Mohan Yadav (MP), Vishnu Sai (Chhattisgarh), Himanta Sarma (Assam), Manik Saha (Tripura) were among those who attended. Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah were also present.
