State Transport and Power Minister Anil Vij has decided to start local bus services to connect the Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment and inner areas for the convenience of the residents.

Buses will ply every hour

The prime objective of the plan is to connect the Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment with a shuttle service and also connect the inner areas, where a large number of people go. Buses will keep plying after every hour — Anil Vij, transport minister

The minister wants to start mini-electric buses in the twin cities to provide services to the local residents at affordable rates. Local buses used to ply earlier, but the service was stopped, and the Transport Minister has directed the General Manager, Roadways, Ambala, Ashwani Dogra, to prepare a detailed report to resume the service.

Minister Anil Vij said, “The prime objective of the plan is to connect the Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment with a shuttle service and also connect the inner areas, where a large number of people go. Buses will keep plying after every hour. I have given some locations in Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City which we want to cover and I have told officials to consult Aseem Goel (former Ambala City MLA) to get the areas he wants to cover in the city area. We also want to cover the points of busy market areas while ensuring the traffic is not disturbed.”

“A number of students use various modes of transport to reach their respective colleges and destinations, and the bus service will give a much-needed respite to them. I have asked the General Manager of the Roadways to prepare a detailed report and submit it soon after Diwali so that the service could be resumed. We will try to start electric mini-buses so that they could easily move in the inner areas. After getting the detailed report, we will study and decide the number of buses required for the service. We will try to start the service at the earliest,” he said.

The Transport Minister plans to cover areas like Boh, Babyal, Defence Colony, Tangri Road, Mahesh Nagar, Sadar Bazar, 12 Cross Road, Subhash Park, etc. of Ambala Cantonment, while in Ambala City, he plans to cover Manav Chowk, Polytechnic Chowk, Baldev Nagar, Prem Nagar and other important chowks.

Regarding the shortage of buses, Vij said, “I will hold a meeting with officials of all three departments (Transport, energy and labour) on November 4, 5, and 6 to get details about the services and problems so that the issues can be resolved. After getting detailed information, we will work to resolve the issues and fulfil public demand.”
