The state government has decided to increase the number of seats in 137 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to 50,000 from the existing 35,000 over the next two years. These institutes witnessed an unprecedented 25 per cent surge in admissions during the ongoing academic session.

Confirming the development, Technical Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the admissions to IITs across the state had increased from 28,000 to 35,000. “We are now training placement officers to increase the employability of students passing out from these institutions,” he said.

The minister said the ITIs now offered 86 trades, including both engineering and non-engineering options.
