The district administration has constituted the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) and Social Media Monitoring Cell to oversee election related news, advertisements and other promotional material at district level.

Yash Garg, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, said various committees were being formed for smooth conduct of General elections to Haryana Vidhan Sabha. He said both the MCMC and the cell are tasked with monitoring election-related news and advertisements and ensuring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.

“The candidates must obtain prior permission from the MCMC before publishing or broadcasting any promotional material. Applications for advertisement through these media must be submitted to the MCMC, which will grant permission in accordance with regulations,” he said. He added that expenditures on such advertisements will be recorded in the candidate’s expenditure account.

He said unauthorised publication or broadcasting of publicity materials will be classified as paid news.
