A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the state government over prolonged sewer overflow issue in Maur Mandi, Bathinda.
Maninder Singh Sekhon, chief of the Punjabi Maha Sabha, who filed the PIL, sought urgent judicial intervention regarding the ongoing public health hazards and daily inconvenience faced by the residents due to the persistent overflowing of drains.
He claimed that despite repeated complaints from locals, the authorities had failed to address the problem effectively. Thus, affecting the health and overall quality of life in the area.
The high court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government and sought a detailed reply by November 14.
The case underscores growing concerns about urban infrastructure management in Punjab’s smaller towns.
