Phagwara: Three held on assault charge

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested three members of a family on the charge of assaulting a woman. Investigating officer (IO) Amarik Lal said the suspects had been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Chuheki village, his wife Sarabjit Kaur and son Sunil Kumar. Monika, a resident of the same village, told the police that the suspects barged into her house on May 11. They assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences. OC

Drug peddler in police dragnet

Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling intoxicant tablets. The suspect has been identified as Devi Dyal, a resident of Uggi village. Investigating officer (IO) Balbir Singh said 162 intoxicant tablets were recovered from his possession. A case has been registered. OC

Man booked in dowry case

Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked the husband of a woman for dowry harassment. Investigating officer (IO) and Uggi police post in-charge Balbir Singh said the suspect had been identified as Satwinder Singh, a resident of Lakhnoti village in Saharanpur district, UP. Iqbal Singh, a resident of Uggi village, told the police that the suspect harassed his daughter Mandeep Kaur for bringing more dowry and mentally tortured her and threw her out of home. The IO said a case under Sections 406 and 498-A of the IPC had been registered.
