PGIMS opthalmology prof held for sexual harassment

Dr VK Dhull, a professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at Rohtak PGIMS, has been arrested for calling up a postgraduate girl student at the department under the influence of liquor in the night and sending her obscene WhatsApp messages.
The student had lodged a complaint at the PGIMS police station on February 12 alleging that Dr Dhull, who was her guide, often used to call her up in an inebriated condition at night.
“As I did not respond to his calls, he sent me two disappointing WhatsApp messages on the night of September 19, 2019. On the next day, I lodged a complaint with the PGIMS authorities following which he gave statements like ‘how dare she lodge a complaint against me’ and ‘I will see how she passes (her exams)’,” the complainant maintained in the FIR.
The police registered a case under Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act-2008 and Sections 354-D and 509 of the IPC and arrested the professor.
He was produced before a local court which sent him to jail under judicial custody.
The PGIMS Director, Prof (Dr) Rohtas K Yadav, said the complaint of the PG student had been referred to the sexual harassment committee of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) which had indicted the professor.
“The report of the committee was presented before the UHS executive council which decided to place Dr Dhull under suspension,” he stated.
IIM-Rohtak former teacher booked for fraud
The police have registered an FIR under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against a former assistant professor of IIM-Rohtak on the basis of a complaint lodged by Surjit Singh, who runs an outsourcing agency and has remained associated with the institute.
The complainant has alleged that Nirmalay Bandhopadhyay, who was a teacher at IIM-Rohtak, had taken Rs 6 lakh from him for getting his wife employed as an accounts clerk/office assistant at the institute.
Bandhopadhyay has termed the charges as baseless and concocted, maintaining that the FIR had been registered against him at the behest of vested interests as he was trying to expose certain irregularities at the institute.
