PGI wins awards at ICMR summit
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, was awarded with the research excellence award in the overall best institution category at the DHR ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit-2024 in New Delhi on Thursday. Over 500 delegates attended the event held to celebrate 113th anniversary of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The award was given by Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Dr VK Paul, Member (Health) NITI Aayog.
Prof Sanjay Jain, Dean (Research) PGI received the award on the behalf of the institute. The award was given for generating the best output from extramural research funding given by the ICMR to all the medical colleges and government research institutions across the country. Along with AIIMS-New Delhi, PGIMER, Chandigarh, was the only other institute honoured under this category.
The PGI also received the award for the best HTA Centre in the country. The award was created to honour the best institute in the country undertaking policy-relevant research on Health Technology Assessment. The HTA Centre in PGI is established in the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health since 2018. It is led by Prof Shankar Prinja, who is a Professor of Health Economics.
Prof Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, said, “We are honoured to receive the research excellence award. We have made significant strides in research and innovation in recent years. Over ?100 crore were generated by the institute as the extramural grant during the financial year 2023-24, reflecting robust financial support for ongoing research initiatives.”
