PGI felicitates members of blood donors’ organisations
Chandigarh, June 12
To mark World Blood Donor Day, the PGI felicitated voluntary blood donors’ organisations and other donors who had supported this humanitarian cause and a noble act of solidarity during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity, join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the role that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
It was with the generous support from all these organisations that the Department of Transfusion Medicine conducted more than 1,000 blood donation camps and supplied blood components to various patients admitted to the institute during the pandemic times.
Although transfusion services were severely hit across the globe during the pandemic times, the institute could maintain its lifeline through the support of these organisations and voluntary blood donors.
While honouring the donors, Prof Vivek Lal, Director of the PGI, appreciated their unstinted support to the institute and requested them to keep their commitment towards the institute for this noble cause with same enthusiasm in future as well.
Prof Jagat Ram, former Director, also highlighted the role of these organisations during the pandemic in bringing blood donors and saving precious lives.
A total of 70 voluntary blood donors’ organisations and the representatives of prominent print media establishments were honoured.
