Person beaten to death for not paying alcohol share, 1 nabbed
A quarrel over not paying the share for liquor led to a murder. The accused stole Rs 400 from the victim, bought more liquor and later admitted himself in a de-addiction centre to evade arrest, police officials said on Wednesday.
On October 14, the Anand Vihar police were alerted about the presence of a blood-stained dead body found during a routine morning patrol.
The beat staff while on duty stumbled upon the lifeless body of a man later identified as Nirala Sahu, also known as Rahul, a 30-year-old resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
After identifying the deceased, the body was transferred to Hedgewar Hospital, where he was declared dead and a case was registered.
More than 150 CCTV footages were analysed from various locations, police said. The breakthrough came when the suspect, identified as Ankit Mishra, was captured on CCTV with the victim in the early hours of October 15 at the JJ Camp near Anand Vihar. His father revealed that Ankit had checked into a de-addiction centre at Loni, Ghaziabad, soon after the murder, raising suspicions about his involvement, an official said.
During interrogation, Ankit confessed to the crime, admitting that he had been drinking with the victim on the night of the murder.
