Amritsar, June 28

After the recent action against a private ultrasound centre, the state body of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association has requested the health authorities to use Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act with utmost caution without showing any haste.

In the recent action, the police had booked four persons, including two radiologists for violation under the PC-PNDT Act. The IRIA said all of them abide by the guidelines of the PC-PNDT Act and other guidelines issued by the Health Department and government from time to time.

While requesting the authorities to quash the FIR registered against the doctors in the case, the IRIA said it seems the case was registered in haste without taking into view the clarification issued by the doctors.

IRIA president Dr Mukesh Gupta said: “As per the version given by doctors, the ultrasound was conducted in a professional manner and it was done after completing all formalities.” He said the association does not support any wrongdoing by the members, but at the same time, it has a responsibility to safeguard the interests of professionals.

He said all relevant facts should be taken into consideration before taking action under the PC-PNDT Act which is a stringent law.
