PAU organises plantation drive
Ludhiana, July 24
The Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a plantation drive at Beela village in Pakhowal block here on Wednesday.
Around 25 farmers and farm women participated in it under the theme, ‘plant a tree today for a better tomorrow’. Dr Kuldeep Singh, head, Department of Extension Education, emphasised the importance of such plantation drives for a healthy planet. He noted that while planting trees was straightforward, the real challenge lies was nurturing the saplings.
Dr Dharminder Singh, Principal Extension Scientist, highlighted that the monsoon was the ideal time for planting trees. He advocated for planting traditional varieties such as sheeshum, bohr, dhak, neem, jamun and pipal, which were well-suited to the region’s climate.
Sukhman, secretary of the Cooperative Society, Beela, praised the society’s efforts to enhance the village’s green cover. Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Extension Scientist, concluded the event with a vote of thanks and encouraged the rural community to water the plants daily.
