The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its drive against corruption in the state, have registered a case against Beenu Verma, a resident of Dhuri in Sangrur district.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the case had been registered against the accused based on a complaint filed by Amandeep, alias Kaalu, a resident of Village Rohti, in Patiala district, on the Chief Minister’s anti corruption action line.

He further said the complainant had alleged that an official of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Patiala was trying to implicate him in a false case. Meanwhile, Beenu Verma had approached the complainant and offered to help him, claiming to be in touch with the ANTF officials. Verma demanded a bribe of Rs 7 lakh for this. However, the deal was struck at Rs 5 lakh.

The VB spokesperson further added that during the verification of the complaint the allegations were found to be true and an FIR was registered against the Verma. The accused is evading arrest and the role of the ANTF officials would be verified during further investigation, he added.
