‘VC missing’ posters surface at Punjabi University, Patiala
The Secular Youth Federation of India (SYFI), a student group, has put up “vice-chancellor missing” posters at Punjabi University to register their protest over alleged paucity of paper for printing of degree certificates and detailed marksheets.
In the absence of marksheets and degree certificates, students alleged they were facing difficulty in getting jobs and pursuing further education.
They alleged only students with political backing were getting the degrees and detailed marksheets. SYFI chief spokesperson Yadvinder Singh Yadu said the university was doing without a regular vice-chancellor for the past six months, adding that senior bureaucrat KK Yadav was given the change for some time, but he “hardly visited the university”. He said the university needed a regular VC who could resolve the issues faced by the students and faculty members.
“A deliberate attempt is being made to weaken educational institutions of the state. The senate polls in Panjab University, Chandigarh, are being delayed. Similarly, Punjabi University is awaiting a regular VC for over six months,” he added.
