The employees of the Sirhind Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO), Panchayat Secretary, and MGNREGA employee’s union continued their strike against the officer, and all the development work in the villages came to a standstill. The union said they would continue the strike until the BPDO is transferred. The Sarpanches of the villages have urged the state government to resolve the problem as soon as possible as it affects the development of rural areas.
Panchayat Secretary Union district president Khushwinder Singh said Sirhind BDPO Ramesh Kumar misbehaves, harasses, and uses foul language with his staff, adding that he demands bribes to sign off on projects. He said he abuses and mentally tortures the Panchayat secretary and MGNREGA worker whenever they go to him for any work. He said the development work was affected due to the non-payment of bills. He added that, due to the strike, the development work in almost all the villages in the district has come to a standstill.
He said they have submitted a memorandum to the DC in this regard; however, no concrete action has been taken so far.
