Two booked for cyber fraud
Fatehgarh Sahib, August 22
The cyber crime cell has registered a case against two unidentified people who allegedly visited the home of a retired government school teacher in Fatehgarh Sahib, pretending to be bank officials.
On the pretext of updating information on her pension account, they withdrew Rs 1.05 lakh from her account.
Cyber crime cell incharge inspector Devinder Singh said complainant Surinder Kaur stated on July 13 that around 2 pm two unidentified persons came to her house, claiming they were from the State Bank of India, Sirhind branch, where her pension account was operational.
She said the miscreants asked for her cell phone to update her account and after some time returned it and left.
She said that on July 24 she went to the bank to get an account statement when she found out that Rs 5,000 were withdrawn from her account on July 13 and Rs 99,996 were transferred to another account through Google Pay on July 24. Bank officials said they had not sent anyone to her house. The police registered a case against the two persons.
