Smuggler arrested for 8 kg heroin haul
Patiala, June 29
The Patiala police claimed to have arrested a drug smuggler involved in the case pertaining to the recovery of 8.27 kg of heroin, pistol and some cartridges from a field at Dedhna village in the Patran block of the district last month.
The smuggler was in the custody of the Patiala police earlier but at that time, they weren’t able to discover his link in the case.
Addressing a press meet at the Police Lines, SSP Deepak Parik said they had arrested a person, who was identified as Amirk Singh, on June 12, 2022. He had to be handed over to the Hoshiarpur police because he was wanted by them in multiple FIRs. He was later declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
He said the same accused, during investigation by the Hoshiarpur police, revealed that 8.27 kg heroin seized by the Patiala police at Dedhna village was his.
Following his confession, the Patiala cops got the accused from Hoshiarpur on a production warrant and obtained his police remand from a local court.
Ironically, the heroin seized by the Patiala police was recovered from the field of the accused’s father. But then the Patiala police had failed to grill him thoroughly during his arrest and handed him over to the Hoshiarpur cops.
The accused was wanted in 11 different cases in various districts of Punjab and Haryana, the SSP added.
