The police have tracked and traced the route taken by the suspects to reach the house. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle and the route used by them to escape after they committed the robbery, say sources.
“We suspect the role of an insider who may have disclosed vital information about the money kept in the house to the suspects,” an official said, adding: “The manner in which the robbers entered the house shows that they had exact knowledge about the large sum on the premises.”
“A few people have been questioned and we are trying to ascertain the identity of the robbers,” a police officer said.
The complainant, Sanjeev Kumar of Ghagga, runs a provision store and his house is located in the same building. Around 2 am on Sunday, he heard a noise apparently coming from near his front door, which he opened to investigate. At this, three masked men, holding sharp-edged weapons, barged into the house and asked the family to hand over the keys of a particular almirah.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that they have registered an FIR and teams have been formed to crack the case.
“We have certain leads and the case would be solved soon,” he said.
