Punjabi varsity's deputy registrar, superintendent suspended
Punjabi University, Patiala, has suspended a deputy registrar of the examination branch and a superintendent for generating fake salary bills running into lakhs.
According to a letter issued by the Registrar, a committee was formed by the Vice-Chancellor to investigate the matter, which rocked the university three years ago. The committee submitted its report related to 125 bills.
According to the report, Dharampal Garg, deputy registrar, examination branch, Punjabi University, was found involved in passing fake salary bills of research fellows.
The investigation revealed that a senior assistant had deposited lakhs of rupees in his and his colleagues’ bank accounts by using fake bills, stamps and signatures.
The senior assistant concerned had also deposited Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh in the bank accounts of other university employees. The university had prepared a list of 12 such employees who were all considered to be involved in the scam. The Urban Estate police had registered a case against six people, including senior assistant Nishu Chaudhary.
