Posters declaring vice chancellor missing have surfaced at Punjabi University in Patiala.

Secular Youth Federation of India (SYFI), a student group, has claimed responsibility of putting up these posters.

They alleged the posters were pasted to register their protest over the paucity of paper used for printing degree certificate and detail marksheet. In the absence of marksheet and degree certificate, the students allege that they were facing difficulties in getting jobs and pursuing further education.

They alleged only students with political backing were getting the degrees and detail marksheets. SYFI's chief spokesperson Yadvinder Singh Yadu said the university has been without a regular vice chancellor for the last six months, adding that senior bureaucrat KK Yadav was given the change for sometime, but he “hardly visited the university”.

He said the university needed a regular V-C, who could resolve the issues faced by the students and faculty members.

“A deliberate attempt is being made to weaken the educational institutions of the state.  The senate polls in Panjab University, Chandigarh, are being delayed, similarly Punjabi University is awaiting a regular V-C for over six months, he added.
