Sharing details of the operation, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said one of their accomplices, Rahul Kumar of Green City Phase-1 Neelpur, Rajpura, had previously been nabbed by the Rajpura police.

Sharma said a Rajpura-based builder and financer had been receiving threatening calls from gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon, a resident of Baba Deep Singh Colony, Rajpura. Dhillon is currently based in Germany and is an aide of fugitive gangster Goldy Brar.

An FIR was registered against Goldy Dhillon and his associates at the City police station in Rajpura.

The extortionists demanded Rs 50 lakh from the builder, who promptly informed the police.

Acting on the information, a team headed by Rajpura Special Cell in-charge Inspector Harry Boparai and Rajpura SHO (City) Inspector Amandeep Brar, identified Jatin Das as an insider who worked at the finance firm of the victim and provided information to Dhillon.

The SSP added that the preliminary investigation revealed that Goldy Dhillon had tasked Rahul and Navjot to attack/harm the builder-financer.

Accused Navjot, alias Laddi, had a criminal history, said the SSP.

Both Goldy Dhillon and Goldy Brar were also involved in a firing incident at a businessman’s residence in Chandigarh in January and are part of the NIA’s wanted list, with a Rs 10 lakh reward.
