Students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law here on Sunday held a protest, alleging harassment by the university authorities and have demanded the removal of the Vice Chancellor, who earlier in the day visited the girls’ hostel, allegedly without permission.

The students have decided to boycott classes till action is taken. Till the filing of this report, the students continued to sit on dharna on the university campus at Sidhuwal village.

According to the students, Vice Chancellor Jai Shankar Singh entered the girls’ hostel for inspection after visiting the hostel mess. “He inspected the hostel rooms without the permission to do so. He also commented on the attire of a few girls present there, following which many of us objected,” said a girl student, on condition of anonymity.

Later, students sat on a dharna, raised slogans against the vice chancellor and demanded his resignation. “No one has the right to invade our privacy and comment on our choice of clothes. He should resign or we will boycott classes,” said the students.

“We have been facing many issues for the past few months but no one from the university wants to resolve these and they issue only threats,” said an agitating student.
