Patiala Civic body to spend Rs 15 crore on road repairs: AAP MLA
The civic body is spending a whopping Rs 15 crore on road repair or recarpeting of road that were dug up for laying pipeline for the surface water.
The road repairs have begun after L&T – the company given the charge of laying pipeline — dug up streets to install pipes for the canal water supply.
The company has been at the receiving end for causing inordinate delay in the project and shoddy digging work for laying the pipeline. The residents have complained that the broken road was causing dust pollution and leading to accidents.
MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli inaugurated the reconstruction of the road from Sheranwala Gate to the Language Department. Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajat Oberoi and L&T officials were also present at the event.
The MLA said the project for improved water supply and making canal water potable was progressing rapidly and will soon be dedicated to the public.
He added that L&T had dug up roads to lay pipes. Out of the total Rs 288 crore surface water project, Rs 15.60 crore was allocated solely for road construction. Reconstruction of dug-up roads has begun and the new stretch would have the same quality as before, he added.
Kohli added that the previous governments made lofty promises about development, yet Patiala never saw any real progress. In contrast, the current Punjab Government is continuously carrying out development works across other areas of Patiala as well.
Yesterday, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh today said a fine of Rs 9.50 crore had been imposed on L&T for delays in the canal water supply project. He assured people that the project would be operational by December 2025.
