Panel pulls up Patiala civic body staff over tardy pace of projects

A Vidhan Sabha committee led by chairman Gurpreet Bassi Gogi held a meeting with officials of the Patiala MC to discuss the ongoing development projects in the city. At the meeting, Gogi told MC officials to make sure that no shops came up in the vacant area near the AC market and. He said this space would be used to build a multi-storey parking facility for visitors and shop owners.
Gogi said that residents have been facing inconvenience as some roads that were dug up nearly six months ago for a canal-based water project have not been recarpeted so far. He added that a majority of the streetlights in the city are defunct and ordered the MC staff to prepare an estimate for repair of roads and streetlights in the city.
Talking about the outdoor advertisement project, Gogi said, “I have instructed the official responsible for the project to increase the number of advertisement sites from 92 to 200 and conduct auctions for the same so that the civic body may generate revenue.”
Committee members, including MLAs Ajitpal Singh Kohli, Ashok Parashar, Amandeep Kaur Arora, Madan Lal Bagga and Kuljit Singh Randhawa, also visited the Old Tractor Market (Kabari Market) near Anardana Chowk and asked MC officials to remove road encroachments.
Addressing mediapersons, Gogi said that the committee had conducted a thorough inspection of various locations and issued directives to MC officials to complete the sewerage project and development work around the Old Tractor Market within 15 days.
