Panchayat poll: Fatehgarh Sahib DM lists restrictions for Oct 15

People from other dists should leave 48 hrs before polling ends

District Magistrate Sona Thind has ordered various restrictions on October 15 within a radius of 200 metres of polling booths in Fatehgarh Sahib.

She said this had been done because the General Panchayat Elections being conducted on October 15 by the State Election Commission and the counting of votes would also be done on the same day.

The DM had issued orders exercising powers under Article 163 of the Indian Civil Rights Act 2023 to conduct the election process in a peaceful, smooth manner and maintain law and order on the election day as per the Standard Operating Procedure issued by the State Election Commission.

She has ordered that the people from other districts should leave the district, there will be no campaigning by any candidate or his supporters in polling booths or public/private places 48 hours before the end of polling. No person will be allowed to make noise, drunkenness or rowdy behaviour near the polling booths.

No person shall use cellular phone/cordless phone/wireless set/loudspeaker/megaphone, etc in 100 metres radius of the polling booths.

The DM clarified that the order will not be applicable to observer, administrative/police officers posted on election duty, security personnel posted on duty, government employees related to polling/counting.

No poster/banner of any kind related to publicity will be put up. No political party, contesting candidate shall pitch its polling booth/tent within 200 metres of the polling booth.

No person, except a person authorised by the State Election Commission, District Election Officer, Fatehgarh Sahib, gram panchayat constituency returning officer, shall take his private vehicle within 200 metres of any polling booth. This could disrupt the work of security forces deployed to enforce law.

Meanwhile, SSP Ravjot Grewal warned that no one would be allowed to take law in his hands and to disrupt the peaceful polling process. She said immediate strict action will be initiated.
