Now, junior resident alleges sexual harassment by technician at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala
Amidst nationwide protests over the rape and murder case of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital has lodged a complaint of sexual harassment. A gynaecologist has accused an ECG technician of inappropriately touching her while she was at work.
According to RDA president Dr Akshay Seth, the incident occurred on the night of September 12 in the labour room, when a junior resident of the gynaecology and obstetrics department was in the labour room. In a letter to the director principal of Rajindra Hospital, Dr Rajan Singla, the RDA said, “We take such matters very seriously and request an immediate inquiry into the matter. We urge the administration to take appropriate action as per institutional policies to ensure a safe and respectful working environment.”
Singla was unavailable for comment. However, a senior hospital functionary, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the case has been referred to the committee formed to address sexual harassment. The committee will submit its report within a couple of days, and appropriate action will be taken accordingly.
