North zone youth festival kicks off at Punjabi varsity

As many as 800 students from 18 universities across the country participated in the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) 37th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival 2023-24 that began at Punjabi University today. The event was inaugurated by Health Minister Balbir Singh.
At the packed GTB Hall of the university, the tone for the day was set by “Mirza Gaayan”. The tale of Sahiba’s predicament that finally swayed Mirza with it enthralled one and all.
It was followed by a special performance entitled “Majheian de Babeyan da Bhangra”, in which a group of elderly persons from Punjab performed bhangra leaving people awestruck and smiling.
The performance clearly conveyed their agility and love for life. On this note, the inaugural session commenced with the ceremony of lighting the “lamp of knowledge and wisdom”.
The brochure for the event, “Anantnaad” and the certificate of A+ NAAC accreditation were released by the dignitaries present on stage.
Vice Chancellor Arvind expressed delight as the university was hosting the festival after 24 years and the event was running parallel to the “Tenth Book Fair and Literature Festival”.
Dr Balbir Singh, during his inaugural address, handed over the appointment letters to the newly regularised employees and extended the promise that as per the government policy and process, all other employees would also be regularised.
