MLA reviews progress of road repair, canal water project in Patiala
MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli, while reviewing the road repair and canal water project work in Patiala today, instructed officials to immediately begin work in the areas where pipe-laying had been completed. He said any delay in the work would not be tolerated. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Rajat Oberoi, Joint Commissioner Babandeep Singh Walia and Deepjot Kaur were also present.
MLA Kohli said the delays in the road repair were due to the prolonged monsoon that had stretched into the last week of September. But now that the weather had improved, the work would commence immediately, he said. He urged L&T, MC and PWD to start road repair work promptly and ensure its completion by December to alleviate traffic problems.
He said the L&T would begin repairing the Sherawala Gate road next week, while the PWD would start work on the roads from the Old Bus Stand to the PRTC Workshop, Thikriwala Chowk to New Lal Bagh and from 21 No. Phatak to Lehal Chowk. Additionally, the civic body had been directed to start repairing the road from Ablowal to Thapar within a week. Kohli promised that the internal roads in the city would also be repaired soon. He further said 90 per cent of the work on the water treatment plant was complete and the pipe-laying process was progressing rapidly.
He also reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to completing the canal water-based drinking water supply project for the city on time. Which includes the construction of underground service reservoirs, water tanks and the installation of new water supply lines.
The meeting was attended by civic body SE Harkiran Singh, Gurpreet Singh Walia, Executive Engineer of Water Supply Vikas Dhawan, PWD Executive Engineer Piyush Aggarwal, and Sanjeev Singh from L&T.
