Four-day Patiala music fest begins today

The much-awaited second edition of the festival, being organised by the North Zone Culture Centre (NZCC), will showcase the rich and vibrant legacy of Patiala Gharana

On Day 1, Dr Surinder Kapila, senior vocalist, Patiala Gharana, will be the chief guest at the inaugural session of musical festival to be held at Kalidas Auditorium here from December 18 to 22.

The much-awaited second edition of the festival, being organised by the North Zone Culture Centre (NZCC), will showcase the rich and vibrant legacy of Patiala Gharana.

The four-day musical extravaganza will begin with the soulful rendition by famed classical vocalist Shantanu Bhattacharya of Patiala Gharana, while Vidushi Anupama Bhagwat from Bangalore will conclude the musical fiesta with her scintillating sitar recital on December 22.

Prominent among others, who will showcase the wizardry of their vocal chords and nimble fingers, are Gunjan Channa from Shimla (HP), Alankar Singh from Patiala, Ronkini Gupta from Mumbai, Uday Kumar Mallik from Delhi and Saurabh Vashisht from Jaipur.

What is going to be a memorable performance of the season will be a “jugalbandi” of Yogesh Shamsi (on tabla), Tanmay Dawachke (on harmonium) and Rajendra Prasanna (on flute).

The NZCC director, Mohammad Furqan Khan is the brain behind this initiative. Entry will be free on all four days of the musical festival.
