Fatehgarh Sahib: District police crack whip on drug trafficking
To eliminate the drug menace from Fatehgarh Sahib, the district police today launched ‘Sampark’ campaign, the brainchild of SSP Ravjot Grewal, and formed 499 defence committees in rural areas and 93 in urban areas to combat the problem. Members of the committee will help the police nab drug peddlers and take addicts to de-addiction centres, said the SSP while talking to The Tribune. She said the eradication of drugs was the need of the hour, and it could only happen if people of every section of society supported the police in the campaign.
The SSP said CCTV cameras would be installed in all areas and a live streaming service would be started in a special control room. She also said if somebody wanted to share information regarding drugs anonymously, they could use the ‘Drug Tips Helpline’. She said besides this, a special de-addiction programme would be launched soon under which addicts who were nabbed with small quantities of drugs would also be given a second chance. She said police officials had been directed to hold regular meetings with people of villages and cities and members of the defence committees to mobilise the masses against drugs. She said the police were also focusing on the control of small crimes on priority.
Rakesh Yadav, SP (D), urged parents to constantly monitor the daily activities of their children. They urged people to seek the help of police officials in case anyone from their family consumed drugs.
The SSP said a number of anti-social elements who dealt drugs had been jailed, and their properties were also attached. With these actions, the supply chain was being broken, she added.
