Health services continued to remain paralysed as doctors at the Civil Hospitals and dispensaries in the district continued to suspend the OPD services. The hapless patients found themselves at the receiving end even as doctors apprised them about their demands and apologised for the inconvenience.

Addressing mediapersons, Kanwarpal Singh Sandhu and Amrinderpal Singh, president and general secretary of the local unit of the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, said their strike would continue till a notification on their two main demands was not issued.

They said there was an acute shortage of medical officers and specialists in the district hospitals and that half the doctors were women and there was no proper security arrangement. They said they would take a call on their protest during a meeting on Sunday.
