Members of Punjab Civil Medical Service (PCMS) Association, Fatehgarh Sahib, protested and submitted a memorandum to the Civil Surgeon regarding their demands, to be forwarded to the Director of Health Services, today. Dr Kanwarpal Singh, president of the association, said the association had written to the director, warning of another strike. He also said government doctors of the entire state would boycott monthly reports and office work and would not participate in any departmental meetings if the demands were not met.
Dr Amarinderpal Singh, district general secretary, said after the Kolkata doctor’s murder, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh had assured doctors that the CM was serious about the issue of hospital security and would ensure arrangements in every government hospital. But till now no security system had been arranged and there had been nine more incidents of attacks on medical staff. It was also assured that the earlier time-bound promotion system would not be discontinued and the government would take a decision on a notification to restore it, which had not been taken. However, the doctors assured that if the government called them for a meeting, they would attend it.
