District administration on toes to curb stubble burning cases: DC

Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav said the administration was actively working to assist farmers in managing stubble produced from 2,32,000 hectares of land in the district. Through the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, efforts were being made to contact every farmer in the district, she said.

Yadav provided insights into the ongoing initiatives for stubble management, noting that the Agriculture Department had been reaching out to farmers over the past two months. As part of this effort, camps had been organised at 242 village-levels and 16 block-levels across the district.

During these camps, farmers received information on effective stubble management techniques and had the opportunity to ask questions. The initiative encouraged farmers to utilise in-situ and ex-situ methods for stubble management, which had been positively received, she added.

Chief Agriculture Officer Jaswinder Singh elaborated on the campaign, highlighting that, in addition to the awareness camps, three mobile vans were visiting every village in the district. These vans were distributing approximately 1,00,000 pieces of literature that detailed the latest stubble management techniques, ensuring that farmers were well-informed.

Awareness campaigns were also being conducted through street plays and ASHA workers. Additionally, painting and essay writing competitions were being held for students in schools, and morning and evening meetings with farmers were being held by the department, they said. Farmers who effectively manage stubble were also being recognised with certificates of appreciation from the district administration.
