No candidate filed nominations for the gram panchayat elections, scheduled for October 15, on the first day of filing of papers today.

In view of the elections, Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav and SSP Nanak Singh held a meeting with SP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam and ADC (Rural Development) Anuprita Johal along with SDMs and DSPs of all subdivisions today to ensure that the elections were conducted with complete fairness and transparency.

Yadav said reservation lists of 1,022 gram panchayats in the district were available at all BDO offices in the district and could also be downloaded from the district administration’s website (https://patiala.nic.in/reservation-list-of-sarpanches-and-panches-for-gram-panchayat-election-2024/). She said all the lists had also been put up in the BDO offices and these lists were also available at DPO office, District Administrative Complex, Patiala.

DC Yadav said if any villager wanted to take these lists, they could take these from these offices. Meanwhile, ADC (Rural Development) Johal said all the lists had also been made available to political parties.
