Cops on toes in Fatehgarh Sahib
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind said all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of panchayat elections have been completed.
She said 362 polling booths have been set up and 2,520 employees have been deputed on election duty and 700 employees have been kept as reserve. She added that of the 429 sarpanches, 112 have been elected unopposed and the election for the rest will be done by voting. She said the voting would be held on October 15 from 8 am to 4 pm and counting of the votes would be held the same day.
She instructed the officials to perform their duty with honesty and dedication so that the elections could be conducted in a free and fair manner.
Meanwhile, SSP Ravjot Grewal today visited the polling booths and held a meeting with police officials and addressed the police personnel put on election duty.
The SSP said in view of the existing security scenario and threat from terrorists’ groups, fundamental organisations and anti-social elements in their bid to thwart the democratic process effective security measures have been taken to maintain law and order during elections and to ensure free and fair polls.
She said there are 49 sensitive, nine hypersensitive polling booths out of 362 and the rest are non-sensitive. She said 812 police officials and personnel have been put on duty.
