The district police claimed to have solved the mystery of a complicated ‘blind murder’ of an unidentified young man held near Khamano. The officials arrested two accused and recovered a motorcycle, knife, rope, and smart watch that belonged to the deceased from them. The accused were booked under Section 103, 3(5) of the BNS at Khamanon police station.

Addressing the media, SSP Dr Ravjot Grewal said on November 14, Khamano police station SHO received information regarding an unidentified body lying near the tomb of Dera Baba Hari Singh Ji in Jatana Niwan village. She said the SHO reached the spot and found that the face of the deceased was badly damaged to make the victim unidentifiable. She said he brought the matter to her notice, and a special team, led by Rakesh Yadav SP (investigation) and Khamano DSP RS Khalon, was formed. She said it was challenging for the team to identify the body as his face was crushed, but with the help of CCTV footage and forensic details, they succeeded in identifying him. The deceased was identified as Sundar Kumar, alias Sunil, who worked for a catering contractor in Balongi village of Mohali. The family of the deceased was called from Uttarakhand to identify the body.

The SP said the police took the contractor, identified as Ajay Yadav of Mohali, in custody, and during the investigation he revealed that he had a doubt that Sunil had a relationship with his sister, so he planned to kill him. During the interrogation, he also disclosed his accomplice, identified as Anand Acharya, who was also arrested.
