Patiala: The Punjab Intelligentsia Forum, formed by serving and retired professors of universities of the state, stated that an increment of the BSF jurisdiction to 50 km in Punjab would lead to infringement of civil rights of the state. Members of the forum said India had regional diversity, which could be maintained with a strong federal structure. “Any encroachment on the powers of the state can be suicidal. By increasing the area under the control of the BSF from 15 km to 50 km can cause a feeling of mistrust between the working of the BSF and the Punjab Police,” they said. TNS
