Arrest of Patiala dist president politically motivated, says Cong
The Congress today hanged placards on the gate of Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh over alleged wrongful arrest of Sanjeev Sharma Kalu, district president, Youth Congress.
As cops were busy with the roadshow of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Youth Congress leaders managed to reach the residence of the Health Minister.
The protesters said it was a politically motivated move to prevent Kalu from campaigning for his wife in the Patiala Municipal Corporation poll.
Senior Congress leaders, including Brinder Singh Dhillon, National Congress Kisan Cell working chairman Bajrang Punia, Punjab Mahila Congress president Gursharan Kaur Randhawa and Punjab Youth Congress vice-presidents Udayvir Singh Randhawa and Harneet Kaur Brar led the protest.
Dhillon said, “The AAP government has crossed all limits. Arresting Sanjeev Sharma Kalu on baseless charges is nothing but a cowardly attempt to stifle Opposition and rig the upcoming elections. This is not the ‘badlav’ people voted for. If Kalu is not released by December 21, we will intensify our protest and expose AAP’s authoritarian rule.”
The Congress also slammed AAP for its double standards, pointing out how the party protests in Delhi against the BJP’s alleged misuse of police while engaging in similar tactics in Punjab.
