AAP MLA inaugurates chowk named after Hari Singh Nalwa
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli dedicated a newly constructed chowk, named after the great Sikh general Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, to the people of Patiala. Built at a cost of cost Rs 25 lakh, the chowk, located at Peeli Sadak, Raghomajra Pulli, was inaugurated after performing an Ardas ceremony.
MLA said the chowk would emerge as the unique identity of Patiala, just like the Fountain Chowk. He further said this chowk would not only enhance the beauty of the city but also help regulate traffic and make it accident-free. He said Patiala had become a symbol of secular ethos and the chowks here were being developed in a historical manner.
On the occasion, Baba Balbir Singh, Jathedar of Budha Dal, who was especially present, congratulated the people of Patiala on the inauguration of the chowk and said that Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa was a strong pillar of the Sikh Empire and a contemporary of the sixth Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Budha Dal, Akali Baba Fula Singh. He said that Hari Singh Nalwa was the general who conquered Kabul and Peshawar, which no one had been able to do till date. Jathedar Baba Balbir Singh and Baba Manmohan Singh Barnavalia also honoured MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli on the occasion.
MLA Kohli said Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa played a key role in expanding the Sikh Empire under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to Afghanistan, Multan, and Jamrud, and fought and won important wars, hoisting the flag of the Sikh nation.
