Three persons were killed and two severely injured in separate accidents in the district last night.

Two persons were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a tree near Jakhwali village on the Sirhind-Patiala main road. They have been identified as Jashanpreet Singh (23) of Kaithal and Harpreet Singh (22) of Sanipur village in Patiala district. Mullepur SHO Rajwant Singh said the police got the information about the accident around 7 am.

The victims were close friends. They were travelling from Patiala to Sirhind. Near Jakhwali village, the driver lost control of the car and it rammed into a roadside tree.

The police, with the help of local residents, took both injured out of the damaged car and shifted them to the Civil Hospital. Both died at the hospital.

In another accident, a speeding tractor-trailer hit a car near Mukaronpur village. A woman, who was travelling in the car, died. She has been identified as Balbir Kaur. Gurcharan Singh of Amrala village and Manjeet Kaur, who were also travelling in the car, suffered severe injuries. They were referred to the PGI.
