2 vehicle thieves held, 3 cars recovered

The district police claim to have arrested two vehicle lifters and recovered three stolen cars from their possession. The arrested accused have been identified as Salamuddin Khan alias Salim, a resident of Ghulu Majra village, and Manjit Singh alias Jiti, a resident of Chahal village in Patiala district.
Addressing the media, Rakesh Yadav, SP (Investigation), said as per the directions of SSP Ravjot Grewal, campaigns against anti-social elements and drug abuse have been going on aggressively. Round-the-clock patrolling and nakas are being erected regularly. He said the CIA staff of Sirhind police, led by Inspector Akash Dutt, had set up a naka near New Bus Stand on GT Road. During checking of vehicles, the police intercepted a car coming from Mandi Gobindgarh and the driver could not produce the necessary documentation. He said that during preliminary investigation, the driver revealed that his companion was following him in another car. The other car was also intercepted and both the cars were seized and drivers taken into custody.
During investigation, the accused revealed that they were running a business of sale and purchase of old cars at Khanna Road in Amloh. The SP said they admitted to stealing cars from outside the state and selling them with fake number plates in Nabi Pur Kabari village car market. On their disclosure, the police recovered another stolen car.
The arrested accused were presented in court and two-day police remand was sought. The SP said that more cases of stolen vehicles were likely to be detected.
