2 dead, 21 injured in bus accident on Sangrur-Patiala highway

A road accident occurred last night on the Sangrur-Patiala main highway near Bhawanigarh, resulting in two fatalities and 21 injuries. The PRTC bus was travelling from Chandigarh to Bathinda when the driver lost control while avoiding a collision with a canter, causing the bus to fall into a deep roadside ditch.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Vinod Kumar of Bhawanigarh’s Community Health Centre reported that 21 passengers with mild and serious injuries were treated at the facility. Two passengers with minor injuries were discharged, while three were referred to Civil Hospital, Sangrur, and 16 to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

According to Bhawanigarh police station SHO Gurnam Singh, two of the injured passengers, Gurpreet Kaur and Rajinder Kumar, succumbed to their injuries at Government Rajindra Hospital. A case has been registered against the canter’s driver.
