Patiala, March 6

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has recently increased the grant to Punjabi University in the annual budget of 2024–25. It may be mentioned that the Punjab government not only retained the annual grant of Rs 360 crore for the university but also announced an increase of Rs 15 crore along with a separate grant of Rs 3 crore for the girls’ hostel.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Arvind, said the budget proposals for 2024–25 show the seriousness and sincerity of the Punjab Government towards the university, which is playing an important role in the intellectual development of the state along with the Punjabi language and culture.

The Vice-Chancellor said the monthly grant of the university in 2021–22 was around Rs 9.5 crore, which was increased to Rs 30 crore by the state government. In October last year, the university attained NAAC ‘A-Plus’ grade, which has resulted in a grant of Rs 20 crore to the university under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA).
