Prior to appearing before Akal Takht to submit their clarifications, former SAD ministers (now in the rebel camp) Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Bibi Jagir Kaur today resigned from the membership of “Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar Lehar” presidium. Both will submit their explanations in person at Akal Takht tomorrow.

In separate letters addressed to SAD Sudhar Lehar convener Gurpartap Singh Wadala, they wrote that after being summoned at Akal Takht, it was their heartfelt intent to appear as “nimana” (humble) Sikhs devoid of holding any position. Hence, they were submitting their resignations.

Dhindsa resigned as a member of the presidium, whereas Bibi Jagir Kaur resigned as its adviser. They said they would abide by all decisions of Akal Takht.

During the decade-long SAD-BJP tenure, Dhindsa remained the PWD minister (2007 to 2012) and Minister for Finance and Planning (2012-2017). Bibi Jagir Kaur was the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister. She also held the social welfare, development of women and children welfare portfolios.
