Panjab University placed 710th in QS sustainability rankings
Panjab University (PU) has secured the 710th rank in the Quacquarelli Symonds’ third edition of ‘QS World University Rankings: Sustainability-2025’. Chitkara University, a private institution in Rajpura near the tricity, secured the 811th rank globally.
The list, released today, featured 1,743 universities from across the world. The global higher education experts used a methodology comprising indicators designed to measure an institution’s ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges.
The PU has been ranked eighth among 77 Indian universities and 189th among the universities of Asia that featured in the list.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi secured the top place among Indian institutions with the 171st rank globally, followed by the IIT-Kharagpur (ranked 202) and the IIT-Bombay (ranked 234). As many as 21 Indian universities have featured for the first time in the world list. While all universities from the country saw an improvement in rankings from the previous edition, the University of Delhi slipped from 220th to 299th spot.
The PU scored 44.6 in Environment Sustainability, 47.9 in Environmental Education and 65.9 in Environmental Research. In the Social Impact category, the varsity got 58.1 score for Equality, 80.2 for Knowledge Exchange, 70.3 for Health and Wellbeing but just 38.2 for Employment and Opportunities and 26.1 for the Impact of Education. In the Governance parameter, the PU scored 45.4.
Congratulating the faculty members and researchers for the improved ranking, Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig said, “The Environment Science Department of the university is doing great in research and has been active in international collaborations too. This is one of the main reasons for the PU’s good score. We are striving for betterment in every parameter.”
The PU had pushed itself to a better position in the QS Asia Rankings-2025 released last month by securing 269th rank, in comparison to getting placed in the 301-350 bracket a year before. In the QS World University Rankings, which got out in June this year, the university had retained the previous position by remaining in the 1001-1200 bracket.
