Panic after half-burnt body of woman found in Amritsar colony

Panic gripped the Railway B-Block Colony after the half-burnt body of a middle-aged woman was found here on Friday morning.

The incident came to light when people noticed foul smell emanating from the area and a search revealed the body.

The police, which reached the spot after it was informed, have started the investigation. Forensic teams also reached the crime scene to collect evidence.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh said the police were trying to identify the victim by visiting nearby localities. He said a message had been flashed to all police stations and neighbouring police districts for any missing-person report.

The police were working on various theories, including suicide. “The Gate Hakima police found a bottle from near the spot. Forensic teams have reached the spot and it would soon become clear whether it was a suicide or not,” he stated.

Her identification would throw more light on the incident and the reason behind it, he added.
