A pangolin, a scaled insect-eating mammal, was spotted by the Forest Department at Bir Baghera village in Sujanpur subdivision in the district near here on Monday. The animal had ventured into a house after which the owner of the house informed the Forest Department. A team led by Divisional Forest Officer Ankit Singh immediately reached the village.

The DFO said that the pangolin was safely was later released in the forest. Notably, pangolin is one of the animal species that is nearing extinction due to its extensive illegal trade. The pangolin was healthy and hence it was released in the forest, the DFO said. He said that it was for the first time that a pangolin was spotted in this area.
