Haryana Assembly Speaker and Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta today released a booklet, comprising the development works undertaken in Panchkula during the 10 years of his tenure as the area’s MLA. He said development works worth Rs 5,000 crore were carried-out in Panchkula district alone, which was more than that of any other district in the state. Following this he demanded Congress leaders, including Selja Kumari and former deputy CM Chander Mohan to share the details of the development works carried-out during their respective tenures as MP and MLA.

During a press conference, Gupta said he was completely fit and ready to contest the upcoming Assembly elections. Sitting by his side, Panchkula Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal also confirmed his willingness to contest, “if given a chance by the party”.

Raising questions on the works done by Congress’ MLAs and MPs during their tenrues, he said Panchkula, after his tenure, was now known for its development. He said this was an example that Panchkula had witnessed ‘das saal bemisal’ (ten best years).

He said, “Earlier, residents of the area used to get electricity supply for around 8 hours, but now the state is providing them 24-hour supply”.

He listed various development works related to education, sports and development of other infrastructure and said, “The National Institute of Fashion Technology was started in 2016 during our tenure. Over 90 per cent of the work of National Institute of Ayurveda has been carried-out. The Civil hospital at Sector 6, which earlier had a capacity to accommodate only 100 beds, has been developed into a 500-bed hospital and has facilities of MRI, CT scan, cath-lab and dialysis, among others.”

He said the first bus depot was established in Panchkula during his tenure and today over 170 buses ply from it.

He also shared details of construction works of roads, canal water supply, construction of Ghaggar bridge, railway over bridge and others during his tenure along with mentioning the development of a multi-purpose sports hall, a hockey stadium, an indoor volleyball stadium and a sports injury recovery centre all built in Panchkula at Tau Devi Lal Stadium.
