Panchayats near Shimla town to get water connections at cheaper rates

Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limit (SJPNL) will provide water connections to residents of panchayats adjoining the state capital at cheaper rates.

The panchayats include several areas under Malyana, Mehli, Sargheen, Chaili, Bhatta Kuffar, Beolia, Dhalli and Bharari. Residents of these panchayats had been demanding new water connections for a very long time.

The decision was taken during a recent at the state Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena. A proposal to providing water connections at cheaper rate was presented for approval.

The decision came after the officials came to know that the panchayat areas adjoining Shimla were facing shortage of drinking water as these areas did not have any big supply scheme to meet the requirement. It was decided during the meeting that only one water supply connection will be provided per building.
