Panchayat poll candidate’s spouse gets threat calls
Husband of a woman, who contested for the post of panch, received life threats from some foreign mobile numbers. Callers told the complainant that they would kill him and his children.
The complainant, Ranjit Singh, a resident of Utala village, told the police that in the recently concluded panchayat elections, his wife Rajdeep Kaur contested as a panch candidate in the village. On October 15, he received a call from an international mobile number. He did not pick up the phone. After sometime, he again got a call from the same number and when he received it, the caller started abusing him and said he had to face consequences for being in forefront of the panchayat elections at the village and threatened to shoot him and his children.
He said on October 19, again, he received a
call from another foreign mobile number.
When he picked up the call, the suspect, who had threatened him earlier, again threatened him, Ranjit said.
He said on October 17, a woman, Jaspreet Kaur, of his village had also received life threat from some mobile number as the caller threatened to kill her.
The Samrala police have registered a case and started a probe in the matter.
